a warm welcome for you and your little one.
Our playgroup is a free Monday morning where your little one can explore a thoughtfully prepared space at their own pace, and where you can settle in beside them and chat with other parents. Our educators set out hands-on experiences chosen for small hands, from sensory trays and playdough to small world play and early Montessori materials, and your child chooses what draws them in.
There is no cost and no enrolment to complete. You do not need to be a Sagewood family, and everyone in the local community is warmly welcome.

what a morning with us looks like
Every session opens with a hello song on the mat, because a familiar start helps children settle and gives them a moment to notice the faces around them. From there the morning belongs to the children, who explore the experiences our educators have prepared, from sensory trays and playdough to puzzles and early Montessori materials.
Our educators stay close throughout, ready to answer your questions and happy to explain why an activity has been set up the way it has. We finish the way we began, packing away together and singing our goodbye song. Each centre has its own rhythm, and you will find the details on your centre's page.
what you will take home
Playgroup gives you unhurried time with your child, and a chance to see them through an educator's eyes. Our educators notice the small milestones that are easy to miss in a busy week, and many parents leave with simple ideas to try at home using everyday things, a basket of fabrics or a jug small enough for little hands to pour from.

why our playgroup is Montessori-inspired
Our centres blend Montessori, Reggio Emilia and Steiner thinking within the Early Years Learning Framework, and our playgroup rests on that same foundation. In practice it means real, purposeful activities placed at your child's height, with the freedom to choose what to do and how long to spend doing it. The morning is shaped by the three values that guide everything we do, nurture, love and inspire.
A child's brain develops more quickly in the first few years than at any other time in their life, and young children absorb what surrounds them rather than needing to be taught. You may notice your little one climbing everything in sight one month and posting lids into containers the next. Playgroup gives them the room to follow those urges safely, and gives you a clearer understanding of what sits behind them.
There is no charge and no paperwork to complete before you come along.
